Rupornis magnirostris

Roadside Hawk

The Roadside Hawk (Rupornis magnirostris) is one of the most common and adaptable birds of prey, frequently found in forest edges, open fields, and suburban areas. It is distinguished by its medium size, piercing yellow eyes, and grayish upperparts with cinnamon and white barred underparts. A key identification feature in flight is the distinctive rufous patches on its primary wing feathers. It is a very vocal and territorial bird that often perches out in the open on posts or wires along roads, from where it hunts for prey, primarily insects, reptiles, and small mammals.
