Cathartes aura

It is a large scavenging bird with dark plumage and a distinctive featherless bright red head. It soars in thermal updrafts holding its wings in a characteristic dihedral V-shape. Possessing a highly developed sense of smell, it can locate hidden carrion beneath dense forest canopy.
