Aglaiocercus kingii

Long-tailed Sylph

The Long-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus kingii) is one of the most breathtaking hummingbirds found in the Colombian Andes. The male is renowned for its incredibly long, deeply forked tail of shimmering metallic blue, which can often be twice the length of its body. It inhabits cloud forests and forest edges at elevations between 1,400 and 3,000 meters. A solitary and territorial bird, it vigorously defends its nectar sources. Its flight is remarkably agile and elegant, allowing it to navigate its large tail through the dense vegetation of the misty highlands.
