Spinus psaltria

Lesser Goldfinch

The Lesser Goldfinch (Spinus psaltria) is a small and lively songbird of the Fringillidae family, highly common and adaptable throughout the Andean region of Colombia and other open areas. Males of the Colombian subspecies are characterized by their glossy black upperparts and head, contrasting with a bright yellow breast and belly, and prominent white wing patches that are highly visible in flight. Females and juveniles display a much duller olive-brown coloration above and pale yellow below. Primarily granivorous, this species is typically seen in small flocks foraging on seeds of weeds and herbaceous plants, buds, and fruits in scrublands, pastures, forest edges, and urban parks.
